Is getanote free of charge?

Yes, the registration and our service are free of charge.

Whom is getanote for?

getanote is for everyone who cares about privacy! By using getanote you are reachable without giving away your personal contact details. In order to ensure this, we developed the GTAN system.

From now on, you can create your own contact channel for any kind of situation. As soon as the purpose of the contact channel is fulfilled, you can easily deactivate it. Therefore, a GTAN is the only way of communication that allows you to decide for whom and for how long you are reachable.

What is a GTAN?

A GTAN is a random unique ID, a combination of numbers and letters. Each GTAN represents an own contact channel, the purpose of which is defined by you. Your existing means of communication are more of a permanent nature, and they are ultimately visibly connected to yourself. For instance, once you have given away your e-mail address or your cell-phone number, that is irreversible.

You can create yourself a GTAN easily via your getanote account. Right after you created a GTAN, you are reachable through this unique ID. As soon as the purpose of the GTAN is fulfilled, you can instantaneously delete the GTAN. From that moment on, there is no chance anymore to communicate via the deleted GTAN.

Is getanote secure?

getanote is for everyone who cares about privacy without revealing her or his actual contact details. We are using the GTAN system to achieve this goal, ensuring the highest degree of anonymity. Thus, you have access to new ways of communication. Each GTAN is unique and leaves no conclusion towards your identity, allowing you to send and receive messages anonymously.

How many GTANs am I able to create?

You can create and use up to 10 GTANs simultaneously.

How can I be contacted?

  1. Free registration: You can create an account free of charge via our website. We do not ask for personal infomation except from an email address and a password chosen by you. Follow this link to reach our registration form.
  2. Login via our website or app
  3. Creating a new GTAN or activating an existing one: You can access both options using the „GTAN settings“ menu in the login area. It is now up to you to decide how to use the GTAN, here are some examples:
    • Create a GTAN for every single contact
    • Create a GTAN for a group of people
    • Attach the GTAN to any object of interests (car, laptop, luggage, key chains, and so forth)

How do I send messages to a GTAN?

There are different ways of contacting a GTAN owner:

  1. Go to the starting page of www.getanote.com and enter the GTAN into the corresponding field.
  2. Enter www.getanote.com/GTAN into the address line, replacing „GTAN“ with the actual GTAN ID
  3. Scan the QR code with a QR scanner. The GTAN page will appear automatically.
  4. Use the getanote app: You will find a corresponding icon in the upper right corner of the „Messages“ section. Here you can either enter a GTAN or use our integrated QR scanner. A registration is not required to contact someone via GTAN..

Important: A registration is recommended if you wish to receive an answer and stay in contact with a GTAN owner.

I am unable to contact a GTAN, why?

There are several reasons why you are unable to send messages to a GTAN:

  • The GTAN owner does only allow messages from registered users
  • The GTAN owner has blocked you from sending messages
  • The GTAN owner has deleted the GTAN, making it impossible to reach the GTAN anymore
  • The GTAN does not exist

How do I (un)block users?

Go to the „Messages“ section in the login area in order to block or unblock users. To achieve this, navigate to the GTAN chat. There is an icon in the upper right corner, allowing you to (un)block users.

How do I delete the chat history of a GTAN?

You can delete the chat history in the „Messages“ section in the login area. To achieve this, navigate to the GTAN chat. There is an icon in the upper right corner, allowing you to delete the chat history.

It is possible to pick up the conversation with the same user via the same GTAN later at any point in time. If you do not wish to receive messages from a user anymore, you are given the opportuinity to block her or him.

How do I edit the welcome message of a GTAN?

You can edit the welcome message of a GTAN in the GTAN settings.

How do I edit the security settings of a GTAN?

You can edit the security settings of a GTAN in the GTAN settings. Click on the GTAN you wish to edit and choose „Edit GTAN“. You are then able to decide which information is shown upon contacting your GTAN.

For how long am I able to use a GTAN?

It is up to you to decide for how long you want to use a GTAN. For example, if you need a GTAN only for a short duration, say five minutes, you are free to delete it after five minutes.

How do I delete a GTAN?

Using our webpage, go to the GTAN menu and click on the GTAN you wish to delete. A settings window will appear. In the latter, use the paper bin icon in order to delete the GTAN. You are able to chose whether you only want to delete the GTAN (i.e. close the communication cannel) or the GTAN including its corresponding chat history.

Using our app, go to the „My GTAN“ menu. Then, navigate to the GTAN you wish to delete and click on „Edit GTAN“. You will find the option „Delete GTAN“ at the bottom.

Attention: This step is irreversible. The GTAN will disappear without a trace.

How do I (de)activate email notifications?

You are able to (de)activate email notfications using the „Messages“ menu. Navigate to the GTAN chat. In the upper right corner, you will find a „(De)Activate email notifications“ icon.

How do I (de)activate push messages?

You can (de)active push messages in the „Settings“ section in our app.

How do I (de)activate sound in the app?

In order to (de)activate sound in the app go to „Messages“ first. In the top right corner you will find a loudspeaker icon. Here you can change the sound settings.

How do I change my password?

You can change your password via the „Settings“ menu in the login section of our website or app. Afterwards, you will receive an confirmation email.

How do I change my email address?

You can change your email address via the „Settings“ menu in the login section of our website.

How do I change my nickname?

You can change your nickname via the „Settings“ menu in the login section of our website.

How do I change the display language

Go to the login area and click on „Problems with my login“. After providing us with your email address you will receive a message. Follow the instructions in order to reset your password.

I forgot my password. What can I do?

Go to the login area and click on „Problems with my login“. After providing us with your email address you will receive a message. Follow the instructions in order to reset your password.

How do I delete my account?

On the website, scroll to the bottom of the Account Settings page and click on "delete Account."
